Municipal Court

The Municipal Court of Thunderbolt was established to provide justice for our community residents. Traffic, Misdemeanor/Felony Court is held on the second and fourth Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m. Probation Status Checks are held the first Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m. Drug Court is held on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 4:00 p.m. The Honorable Willie T. Yancey is Chief Judge and the Honorable Thomas L. Cole is Associate Judge for the Municipal Court of Thunderbolt.

Probation services are provided by PRIDE Integrated Probationary Services. This service is provided to offenders at the discretion of the Judges. All fines/fees are paid directly to PRIDE who was contracted by the Town of Thunderbolt to provide oversight of probationers. All other fees and fines made for payment of all citations issued by the Thunderbolt Police Department are collected by the Court Clerk or designee.

The Municipal Court Clerk, Mrs. Paulette Collins, manages the daily operations of the Court with oversight from the Chief of Police. The Court Clerk’s Office is located on the second floor of the Thunderbolt Municipal Complex, Rm. 205 and can be contacted at (912) 629-4667.

Court Sessions

1st & 3rd Thursday: Drug/Alcohol Docket
** Exception: In November, Court will only be in session 11/4.

In December, Court will be in session 12/2 and 12/16.

2nd & 4th Thursday: Traffic, Felony, Misdemeanor and Ordinance Docket
** Exception: In November, Court will only be in session 11/3 and 11/17.

In December, Court will be in session 12/9 and 12/30.

Continuances

First continuance is granted to both Defendant and State upon notification no later than 24 hours before the day of Court. All subsequent continuances must be based on a legal reason.

All continuances must be in writing and may be faxed to Paulette Collins, Clerk of the Court at 912-629-4668.

Payment

Unless you have a mandatory Court appearance, you may pay your citation online at www.thunderbolttix.com, or, you may mail your money order or cashiers check made payable to “Thunderbolt Municipal Court” to 2821 River Dr., Thunderbolt, GA 31404. Please be sure to note your citation number in the memo field to help insure proper posting of your payment. If you would like a receipt mailed to you, please provide a self-addressed, stamped envelope.

Citations paid by mail or in person need to be received by 4:00 P.M. the day before your scheduled Court appearance. If your payment is not received by 4:00 P.M. the day before Court, you will be required to appear in Court as scheduled.

Failure to Appear

Any Defendant who fails to appear in Court, as scheduled, to answer any charge(s) will be held in Contempt of Court and may have a Bench Warrant issued for their arrest and/or their Driver’s License suspended.
